OVERVIEW

Villa Park will be celebrating its 50th birthday in 2012. On January 3, 1962, citizens, on 1,344 acres of mainly farmland, voted 264 to 134 to establish the city in an area with Anaheim on the north and Orange to the south. January 16, 1962 the first City Council convened elected five council members and passed the laws and regulations that were required for a newly established city.

To recognize this historic event for the city, the Villa Park Community Service Foundation (VPCSF) has been designated to plan and organize the many proposed activities commemorating the Anniversary.

The 50th Anniversary Planning Committee led by Doug Bender, VPCSF Director of Events, has held several organizing meetings to date. Along with the Foundation, representatives from many of the city’s community service groups have joined in developing a master calendar to include the many planned community events and recognition ceremonies that actually will commence in 2011.

Anticipating the need for much volunteer assistance, the Committee is encouraging interested citizens to get more information from City Hall. They can submit any ideas they feel will to help in carrying out a first class celebration.

The committee’s next meeting is scheduled for May 5, 2011 at 8:30 AM at City Hall. Everyone is welcome to attend.
