Pets in Residential Zones

In all residential zones, the keeping of pets of a type readily classifiable as being customarily incidental to a permitted principal residential use is permitted when no commercial activity is involved.

Equine Animals 

The keeping of equine animals for recreational purposes only is hereby permitted provided no equine shall be permitted on a building site containing less than 10,000 square feet of land area. The number of equines kept for noncommercial purposes is established as follows:

45,000 and over     6

Lot square footage relates to that which is owned or leased contiguous land in the aggregate. The maximum number of adult equines for any 1 building site shall be 6. The offspring of such animals shall be considered adults when 8 months old.

Wild and Exotic Animals

The keeping of wild, exotic, or non-domestic animals shall be prohibited in all residentially-zoned properties.


Animal Control and Shelter Services

Animal control and shelter services in the City of Villa Park are provided by Orange County Animal Care (OCAC). Under this agreement, OCAC provides the city with the following services:  

  • Field Services
    Impounding stray animals, picking-up injured wildlife, cruelty investigations, issuance of citations, nuisance complaints, etc.
  • Special Services
    Facility and pet licensing
  • Shelter Services
    Receiving animals from the public, providing low cost vaccination clinics, pet adoptions, etc.
