The City of Villa Park has started road improvements on Villa Park Road. The improvements will consist of new corner curb ramps for accessibility and the replacement of up to two inches of the road's asphalt. The City will replace the asphalt with a new two inch layer of rubberized asphalt. The use of rubberized asphalt reduces the noise generated by passing traffic. More importantly, the use of the rubberized asphalt material increases the life span of the road, saving the taxpayers of Villa Park money in the long run by stretching the time between required maintenance and replacement.

The improvement project will be conducted in phases. Starting February 26th, the contractor is saw cutting the concrete curbs to begin the installation of the ADA accessible corner curb ramps. The first two weeks of March will see construction move to the actual roadway itself with spot repairs and crack sealing, followed by the milling and grinding of the street. During this time, the roadway will be left in a "rough" form - that is, the first two inches are ground down and and the resulting surface is scraped and grooved. This rough form will last less than two days as the next phase is to lay the new layer of rubberized asphalt. Final improvements include cutting out the traffic loops, making sure that manhole and water valve covers are flush with the street surface, and finally, painting new road markings.

During this time, please drive carefully and slow as construction crews will be present. In addition, other vehicles will be driving slow to because of the road condition. If you can, give yourself a few more minutes of travel time or use alternative roads.
